Presided over by the state Chairman, Nsa Gill, the Congress appealed to the state government to take urgent steps towards addressing the deplorable condition of urban roads in Calabar, with particular reference to the 8 Miles axis of the Murtala Muhammed Highway and many other parts of the city, which are usually a nightmare to commuters during the rainy season.
“The Congress also appealed to the state government to take drastic measures towards the prompt evacuation of the resurfacing mountains of refuse littering major streets and markets in the state capital”.
Other resolutions reached on issues affecting the state are, “That in view of the importance of the forthcoming National Population and Housing Census, as a veritable means of generating data for effective planning by government at all levels, Congress called on all residents of the state to present themselves for counting during the exercise.
“That the state government should sustain the current recruitment process into the state civil service, to forestall a possible vacuum arising from the imminent retirement of the experienced workforce who would effectively transfer knowledge as well as experience to those expected to be recruited into the service”.
On the appointments of some
members of the union into strategic positions in the state civil service, such as Head of Service and Permanent Secretaries, the union commended the state Governor, Prof Ben Ayade, for finding members of the union worthy of such appointments, and assured that those appointed had the capacity to justify the confidence reposed in them.
