Residents said the killing followed the battle for supremacy and territorial control by suspected factions of the D12 and BS of Deygbam cult groups.
This came after a similar clash which led to the death of a yet-to-be-identified man took place along the Illabuchi area of Mile 1, Diobu in Port Harcourt, on Saturday night.
Although details of the latest killing were sketchy as of the time of filing this report, a source in the area said the deceased hailed from Akwa Ibom.
The source who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “The man was ambushed by over 10 men who shot severally and left him in a pool of his blood.
“Later, the relatives of the man went to the Divisional Police headquarters in Mile 1 to make an official complaint.”
It was gathered that residents scampered for safety due to the ear-splitting sound of guns, and many remained indoors in order not to be hit by a stray bullet.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident, saying the killing, which was cult-related, was one too many.
She stated, “The Command is aware. I think it is still related to the battle of supremacy by these cult groups.
“We have commenced investigation into the incident to ensure that the perpetrators are apprehended and meant to face the law.”
