The Federal Government has inaugurated the World Blood Donor Day Committee.
The acting Director-General of the National Blood Service Commission, Dr Omale Amedu, disclosed this in a press statement signed by the commission’s Head of Media and Publicity, Haruna Abdullahi.
The committee is tasked with ensuring a successful celebration of the World Blood Donor Day.
The committee is made up of members from the commission, government agencies, and non-governmental organisations, including the World Health Organisation.
The World Blood Donor Day celebration is scheduled to take place on June 14, 2023.
Omale stressed the need for the event to be successful and well-organised, highlighting the crucial role of blood donors in the health care system.
The World Blood Donor Day celebration aims to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation and to encourage more people to become regular blood donors.
It is also an opportunity to recognise the contributions of voluntary unpaid blood donors to health care systems and to thank them for their life-saving gifts.
The committee will work to organise a successful event that will not only raise awareness about blood donation but also encourage more Nigerians to become regular blood donors.
