The Lagos State Government has called on stakeholders to volunteer valuable information towards unravelling the cause of the collapse of a seven-storey building on Banana Island, Ikoyi, on April 12, 2023.
The government in a statement on Wednesday, said a Technical Investigative Committee had been set up to unravel the cause of the collapse that happened on 1st Avenue, 102 Close, Banana Island in the Ikoyi area of the state.
The statement, signed by the Chairman, Technical Committee on the Banana Island Building Collapse, Wasiu Olokunola, said the committee was mandated to “determine the immediate and remote causes of the collapse; verify the appropriateness of the construction work on the site; determine the culpable parties with regard to the collapse of the structure; make recommendations on the remaining structure under construction within the same vicinity; and proffer solutions to building collapse in the state in general.”
The statement added that, “To this end, the technical committee on the aforesaid collapsed building, hereby requests all well-meaning stakeholders, corporate or individual, public or private, with valuable information on the occurrence to help submit their memoranda to allow a thorough assessment of the incident and guide further actions.
“The memoranda should be addressed and submitted in both soft and hard copies to the Secretary, Technical Committee on the Banana Island Building Collapse, Block 15, the Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja not later than five days from the date of this publication.”
