The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Thursday, in Abuja, said the fighting power of the Nigerian Army had progressively increased since his regime began in 2015, making it one of the strongest in Africa today.
“The fighting power of our army was at its lowest ebb as of May 2015. However, seven years later, its fighting power has increased significantly, making it fourth in ranking among African militaries as against seventh in 2015,” Buhari said at the Nigerian Army parade of trooping and presentation of colours at Eagle Square, Abuja.
Recent data from Global Fire Power showed that the Egyptian Army tops the military ranking in Africa in 2023.
Based on the Power Index score, Nigeria ranks fourth after Egypt, Algeria and South Africa.
While Ethiopia, Angola, Tunisia, Libya, Uganda and Kenya ranked fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth, respectively.
