The Kano State Police Command said its operatives recovered four AK-47 assault rifles during a stop-and-search operation at Kwanar Garko, along the Kano-Bauchi Road in the Garko Local Government Area of the state.
The spokesperson for the command, Abdullahi Haruna, in a statement on Friday, said the rifles were recovered in a sack when the Safer Highway Patrol team intercepted a commercial bus driver trying to change direction.
“Following the swift response by the team, the occupant dropped the item, zoomed off and escaped the scene. Upon a search, a sack was found containing four AK-47 rifles.
“As the command is intensifying efforts to arrest the fleeing suspects, it also urged residents to continue to report incidents, suspicious persons, movements or items to the nearest police station,” Haruna added.
