The Commandant General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Dr Ahmed Audi, has expressed the security agency’s readiness to partner Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti to enhance manpower development and increase the technical know-how of the officers.
Audi said the partnership would be in the areas of staff training, manpower development, intelligence and strategic training, health and paramedical support system and short certification courses for the officers and men of the corps.
The NSCDC boss, represented by the Assistant Commandant General (Training and Manpower Development), David Abi, spoke in Ado Ekiti at a meeting with ABUAD management, according to a statement on Sunday by the corps Public Relations Officer, Ekiti State Command, Tolulope Afolabi.
Audi lauded the university for its track record, saying, “ABUAD is a standard institution and the corps would be glad to work with the citadel of learning. The school can stand as a provider of goods and services to the nation. The school generates its own electricity, potable water etc, and has an experimental farm big enough to ameliorate hunger in Nigeria.”
ABUAD Vice Chancellor, Prof Smaranda Olarinde, who said the school had opened its doors to the NSCDC to explore, challenged officers and men of the corps to further their studies in the university, which she said had designed a curriculum that fitted the work schedule of the corps with little or less financial implication.
While welcoming the NSCDC team to the institution, the ABUAD Founder, Aare Afe Babalola, who hailed Audi for his love for the university, urged him to continue his lofty ideas of manpower development of the officers and men of the corps.
Babalola, who said the university had grown rapidly in the last 10 years, stated, “The security sector needs to continue learning to improve on securing Nigerians, to defend the defenceless. It is high time the sector took advantage of opportunities and facilities available in this university.”
