At the match played inside the Rangers International FC training pitch, Liberty Estate, Enugu on Monday, Chioma Eneh put the female team in front in the 27th minute.
Fabian Nwigbo, the captain of the male team, levelled the score after the interval but the female team captain, Rose Ugwu, made it 2-1 in the 78th minute.
In a post-match interview, Nwigbo who is also the NLC chairman in Enugu, said the essence of the novelty match was to commemorate the 2023 workers day.
“During workers’ day, we usually have some other activities and in the morning. we had a press briefing, went to the office and commemorated Workers’ Day.
“From the office, we went to the motherless home with some items before the novelty match to make ourselves happy for the day.
“I am not sure that any worker in Nigeria has felt good since the harsh economy, the terrible wages we have been receiving and we do not want it to weigh us down.
“We decided to come together with one another through this football match and I am happy it ended well, in spite of the outcome,” he said.
Rose Ugwu, the chairperson of the NLC sports committee and the captain of the female team, expressed delight over the win, saying that the victory was not an easy one.
“This feat showed that women are not only good in the kitchen and the other room as people think, but good in other aspects of life and can do whatever man can do.
“We are planning to start football training once in a month, joined with road walk, to help us to be fit always and health-wise,” Ugwu said.
