The family has petitioned the Delta State Police Commissioner and the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 5, Benin City, Edo State on the alleged delay to fish out the killer of their son barely one month after the report of the gory incident was lodged.
PUNCH Metro gathered that suspected assassins on March 19, 2023, between Ughelli and Agbarho in the Ughelli North LGA of Delta State, murdered Mr Solomon Okumakube, in cold blood, after having ordered him to transfer all money from his bank account into the suspected assassin’s account.
But the transaction was allegedly later traced to a private account in one of the new generation banks while no arrest had yet to be effected by security operatives.
The Okumakube family, while speaking with journalists in Warri on Wednesday, through Mr Philip Okumakube, raised the alarm that the incident, which was earlier reported at the Agbarho Divisional Police Station and was later transferred to the office of the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ughelli Area Command, had yet to be acted upon.
“Till date, nothing has been heard of any suspect being arrested by the security agents,” he lamented.
He added, “The family is using this medium to call on the Delta State Police Commissioner, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 5, Benin City, Edo State, the Inspector-General of Police and the Police Service Commission to wade into the issue immediately, so as to uncover the killer of (our) son.”
Okumakube maintained that with the transfer of money made by their late son, through the new generation bank to the suspected assassins, it was ought to be easy for the police to do their findings and bring the culprits to book.
He, however, expressed worry that the matter had been lingering since March 19 when the family reported the incident to the police.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer for Delta State Command, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident which he described as “that Agbarho matter.”
The PPRO noted that he would call back our correspondent for an update on the incident.
“I will call you back,” he said.
However, the police spokesman had yet to revert as of the time of filing this report.
