Teenage tennis sensation, Oyinlomo Quadre, has made history at the Florida International University, United States of America, winning two awards, The PUNCH reports.
Quadre, who gained admission into FIU in January 2023, majoring in Psychology, bagged the Player and Freshman of The Year honours at the university, becoming the first individual to achieve the feat in the C-USA All-Conference Tennis Teams in 12 months.
An excited Quadre stated this via her Twitter handle with an emoji of love and a face with open eyes and hands in her mouth.
The 19-year-old, who is unbeaten in her last 13 games for the Panthers, has recorded 15 wins and two losses, while five of her games against Diae El Jardi, Sofia Madrid, Isabella Flodin, Audrey Boch-Collins and A. Lutkemeyer were unfinished.
In the doubles, Quadre also partnered with Yasmine Kabbaj to help the Panthers win 16 games. The pair lost five times while one of their games ended unfinished as well.
Quadri is expected to feature for the Panthers when they compete in the Coral Gables regionals hosted by Miami, with a first-round match-up against Auburn on Friday (today) at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
First- and second-round competition takes place May 5-6 and features four teams playing in a single-elimination format. The winner of each site advances to super-regional competition on May 12 or 13. Each super-regional site will feature two teams playing a single-elimination format.
The super-regional winners advance to the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida, where the eight teams will compete for the national championship May 17-20.
