The Executive Secretary, Lagos state DSVA, Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, disclosed this at an event themed, “SGBV no dey show for face if you see am talk am, e fit be you o” held in Lagos on Tuesday.
Vivour-Adeniyi stressed that the partnership was solely to heighten awareness and sensitize bus drivers and commuters on issues of SGBV in the state.
She said, “The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency has partnered with the Lagos Bus Service Limited to put an end to the growing concerns about Sexual and Gender-Based Violence in the state.
“This mutually beneficial partnership with the LBSL is with an overall aim to heighten awareness on issues of SGBV in the state.
Vivour-Adeniyi further revealed that the program will spread through to other local government areas in the state.
“This awareness is closely related to prevention and is key in educating the populace that SGBV crimes are against the State and with the statutory mandate of the agency to respond with existing support services, residents can call the toll-free line to also report cases.
“Similar programs will also be held at Dopemu, Oshodi, and Ojodu Berger Park on May 11, 16, and 18, respectively,” she added.
Speaking at the event, the Managing Director, of LBSL, Idowu Oguntona, commemorated the statement of Vivour-Adeniyi, while urging men to respect the female gender and see them as equals.
Oguntona also advised participants to take the message of zero tolerance of all forms of abuse to their community and create a culture of respect and equality.
“The partnership with the DSVA is to lend our voice to this cause even as we reiterate the fact that our men should respect the female gender and see them as our equals. Indeed, societies where there is equality between men and women are found to be safer than regular societies”
“With over 900 personnel, LBSL would strengthen the relationship beyond the public campaign by institutionalizing the initiative in LBSL’s workspace,” he added.
