Four suspects have been arrested for allegedly shooting a herder, Umaru Aliu, to death and dismembering his body in Ijagure village along Sagada, the Imeko-Afon Local Government area of Ogun State.
The state Amotekun Corps Commander, David Akinremi, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.
Akinremi said two of the suspects were arrested by his men in the state while the others were arrested by men of the Oyo State Police Command.
He explained that seven suspects were involved in the killing which occurred on April 30, 2023, around 6pm.
He said nemesis, however, caught up with the suspects as they were arrested on Tuesday.
He said, “The suspects, Akinyele Adebayo, 49, and Idosu Gbalo, 30, were arrested for the murder of a herder, Umaru Aliu, at Ijagure village along Sagada, the Imeko-Afon Local Government of Ogun State.
“The crime was perpetrated on Sunday, April 30, 2023 around 6pm. While the deceased and one Umaru Takake were grazing their cattle in the bush near the aforementioned village, information has it that one Fagbemi Kareem, now at large, armed with a locally made single-barrel gun attacked them.
“Fagbemi Kareem was accompanied by Olorunto Segun, Baba Shele, Lana Ojugbele, and Ashipa, trailed the herders and caught up with Umaru Aliu and allegedly shot him on farmland belonging to one Chief Ogunlana Fagbemi, Alias Osewuya at Ijagure village, while Umaru Takake narrowly escaped unhurt.
“On the same day around 7pm, the duo of Olorunto Segun and Baba Shele allegedly contacted one Akinyele Adebayo to assist to dismember the corpse at the scene of the crime and he obliged in the presence of other cohorts while Baba Shele took away the head of the deceased to an unknown destination.
“Thereafter, the remaining parts of the dismembered body were packed in a sack and buried in a pit near the Oyan River at Oke-Ayo village in Imeko.”
Akinremi added that the suspects took the operatives to the crime scene after admitting their roles in the killing.
“The suspects led the operatives to the scene where the dismembered body was dumped with several parts missing,” he added.
He said the prime suspects, Kareem and Baba Shele, had been arrested by men of the Ojoo Police Division, Oyo State for the offence.
Akinremi added that three other accomplices, Lana Ojugbele, Olorunto Segun and Ashipa, were still at large.
He disclosed that the suspects, Akinyele Adebayo and Idosu Gbalo, are being transferred to the state police headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further action and prosecution.
