The Taraba State Police Command confirmed the development on Friday, adding that Manja was released on Thursday night.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Usman Abdulahi, who confirmed the release of the council boss said the release was as a result of joint operation with sister agencies, including the military.
Abdullahi said no ransom was paid.
According to him, the heat from the joint team forced his abductors to set him free.
The chairman, who was kidnapped along Wukari/Takum road last Sunday, could not be reached at the time of filing this report, but the leader of the Local Government Legislative Council, Pius Bulus Gauva, told journalists that the council was happy with the release of the chairman.
“All I can tell you is that no telephone calls were made to us by the kidnappers throughout the period they held him hostage. So it will be difficult to know the details of his release now.
“We thank God and the security agencies for their role in ensuring his release. He is back home and has since reunite with his family,” he said.
