The group made the call in an open letter signed by its President, Comr. Bene Youkore Mamamu, a.k.a. Young Chief, copies of which were made available to journalists in Warri, Delta State on Friday.
He said, “We want youths as governors, ministers, heads of parastatals, lawmakers in state assemblies, and local government chairmen”, the group stated.
The NDYC, which is an affiliate of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, specifically requested that youth bodies in the country should be considered for appointment to the cabinet of the incoming President.
The NDYC stated, “Youths from every region of the country, most especially Niger Delta should be the focal point for consideration when the President-elect is sworn in.
“For emphasis, such youth bodies include the Arewa Youth Council of the Hausa-speaking aborigines, the Afenifere National Youth Council, the Ohanaeze Youth Council, the Ijaw Youth Council, and most especially, the Niger Delta Youths Council (NDYC) and other notable bodies across the nation”.
The NDYC noted that immediately after the President-elect is sworn in, Nigerians are expecting fast economic reforms in job creation, power, education, technology, and social welfare as well as the creation of more opportunities for Niger Delta youths.
The statement said, “The readiness of NDYC to contribute to the success of Tinubu’s administration by initiating programmes geared at national development and productive engagement of youths”.
