Umealo, who hailed from Umunze in Orumba South Local Government Area of the state, had attended a meeting in one of the communities in the state and was returning from the meeting when the assailants trailed his vehicle and struck.
The reason for the attack has not been ascertained but a close family source who did not want his name mentioned because of the sensitive nature disclosed the news to journalists on Thursday.
According to the source, the slain businessman, popularly called “Sir White” by his friends and business associates, was killed at 7pm last Sunday as he was driving to his Asaba, Delta State residence after the meeting.
It was further gathered that his assailants, after shooting him, allowed him to die in the pool of his blood in his SUV car without taking any valuable.
“His car, handsets, cash and other valuables that were with him were left intact when the Police came and took his corpse to the mortuary. Family sources believe he must have been trailed from where he attended the meeting,” the source added.
Umealo who is a businessman at Ogboefere Market, Onitsha is married with four children.
The Anambra State police spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, has yet to respond to text messages and calls to his mobile line when contacted for confirmation on the matter as of the time of filing this report at about 8:24pm on Thursday.
