The Lagos State Government has announced the diversion of traffic from the Ijora area of the state owing to a failed deck-on-pile bridge at Ijora-Olopa inbound Ijora-Oloye.
The diversion will be in place until the repairs of the failed portion are carried out by the Federal Government, a statement signed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Frederic Oladeinde, said on Thursday.
Oladeinde stated, “Pending when repairs will be carried out by the Federal Government, the Lagos State Government has alerted motorists to the failed deck-on-pile bridge at Ijora-Olopa inbound Ijora-Oloye while releasing traffic diversion.
“The following routes have been mapped out to minimise inconvenience: motorists from the Eko Bridge are advised to utilise Iganmu/Sifax to access Ijora Oloye or Apapa.
“Motorists from Iddo heading to Ijora-Oloye/Apapa will be diverted at the intersection underpass on a contraflow to reconnect at the U-Turn inwards Ijora-Oloye or Apapa.
“The ministry appeals to motorists who make use of the corridor to cooperate with the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and the interventions put in place to manage the traffic.”
The PUNCH reported that the Federal Government had, on Wednesday, ordered the immediate closure of the bridge, attributing the failed portion to the theft of major reinforcement elements of the deck by miscreants in the area.
