The Catholic Bishop of Ekiti Diocese, Felix Ajakaye, has called on well-meaning individuals, groups and governments to ensure the gap between the rich and poor in the society is bridged by providing the needs of the indigent.
The bishop, represented by the Vicar-General, Rev Fr Felix Odesanmi, who spoke in Ado Ekiti during the commencement of the distribution of agricultural input to indigent farmers from the Ado and Ikere Local Government Areas by the Catholic Caritas Foundation of Nigeria, said, “Gestures like this will reduce stress in society and as well check the rise in crime and social disorders”.
Ajakaye hailed Caritas for the effort, saying, “This is to bring people out of poverty. It is to teach and enable our people to fend for themselves and their families. I urge beneficiaries to make judicious use of the knowledge acquired and farm units received to better their lives”.
The Director of Humanitarian Services, Caritas Nigeria, Nkese Udongwo, said the body founded by the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria based on charity to address people’s needs under different thematic areas, including agriculture and humanitarian services, had been living up to expectations.
