The Ogun State branch of the Association of Private Practicing Surveyors of Nigeria has urged its newly registered members to maintain ethical standards and embrace digital transformation.
It also urged the new members to adhere to the recommended scale of fees, in order to uphold professionalism and promote integrity in the field.
Speaking at an annual seminar organised for newly registered surveyors, the Chairman of APPSN, Ogun State chapter, Kayode Adekoya, said the seminar was to ensure that the new members started their practice on a good note by adhering to ethical standards of the profession.
According to him, being able to practice independently was a dream come true and a privilege for them to contribute their quota to the development of the profession.
In his goodwill message, the Chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors, Adebowale Ademola, enjoined new members to avoid unethical practices and undercutting of survey services which could mar the profession.
Adebowale emphasised the need to think beyond personal interests and consider the collective benefits of the profession in their daily survey transactions, as sacrificing ethics for short-term material gains would negatively impact the profession.
In his keynote address, the Ogun State Surveyor-General, Oladele Ewulo, expressed concern over the declining rate of job opportunities for surveyors.
He cautioned members against engaging in unethical practices that could tarnish their reputation and that of the profession.
Ewulo said the consequences of unethical practice included facing disciplinary action and losing both their practice licence and integrity.
