A multimedia artist, Chika Idu, is exciting art lovers with his creative prowess at his ongoing exhibition tagged, Into the Deep, where he is showcasing 22 of his works across two media— watercolour and oil.
The solo exhibition kicked off on Saturday, May 13, 2023, and will end on June 3, at the O’Da Art Gallery, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Idu stated that the works were a continuation of his Swimmers Series, which portray children engaging in various activities, such as on the way to school, praying and reading.
Speaking at a media parley preceding the exhibition, Idu stated that he was inspired by his experience in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State, particularly the way people defecated and dumped refuse in the water, and still fetched from the same source for use in the kitchen.
He added, “I painted children because I love kids. I have always lent my voice things that have to do with children and women.
“I love children because they are creative. They will always invent things on their own when adults deny them excitement. I want a safer environment for them, and that is why I am lending my voice to making the waters safe for them.” The creative director and founder of O’Da Art Gallery, Obida Obioha, also noted that he was enthusiastic about partnering with Idu to host the exhibition.
