Nigeria’s U-20 women’s team, the Falconets will battle with Niger Republic in their opening match of Group B in this year’s WAFU B U-20 Women’s Championship in Kumasi on Sunday.
The Championship will see teams from seven member countries vying for regional glory from May 20 till June 2023 in Ghana.
Group A will see Ghana joined by Benin and Cote d’Ivoire, while Group B features Nigeria, Niger, Burkina Faso, and Togo.
World Cup quarter-finalists, Falconets landed in Kumasi on Thursday afternoon and trained at the Baba Yara Stadium on Friday morning.
Head coach Chris Danjuma selected the best names who steered Nigeria to a last-eight finish at the U-20 Women’s World Cup finals in Costa Rica in August last year and included some members of the bronze medal-winning U-17 girls from last year’s U-17 Women’s World Cup in India.
The clash will commence at 3pm Nigeria time, while the second match of the group, between Burkina Faso and Togo, will start at 6pm.
The Falconets will play Togo at 6pm on Wednesday, May 24 in the second match in Group B, while Niger Republic will tackle Burkina Faso at 3pm.
The group stage matches comes to a close on Sunday, May 28 with Nigeria up against Burkina Faso at the Paa Joe Stadium. Togo and Niger Republic will play simultaneously at the Baba Yara Stadium.
