The Commissioner of Police, Julius Okoro, announced this while addressing reporters on Monday in Makurdi.
Okoro stated that the police received a report on Saturday at 1:45 pm that an unidentified corpse was discovered at Edikwu river bank with its internal organs removed.
“Detectives were dispatched to the location to investigate, and they found that the body belonged to Moses Babatunde, who was last seen at a burial ceremony with his friends. The police have arrested five suspects in relation to the case, and an investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances behind Babatunde’s death and the removal of his internal organs,” he explained.
Okoro also said a medical doctor working at the Federal Medical Center in Makurdi, who was kidnapped on May 13 at Judges Quarters, Makurdi, has been rescued.
“The police, during their investigation, traced the kidnappers to their hideout at Gaya Village, Utange Council Ward in Kastina Ala LGA of the state. The kidnappers engaged the police in a gunfight, and one of them was killed while three others were arrested.
“Ten kidnap victims, including the doctor, were rescued unharmed. The police recovered various weapons and military uniforms from the kidnappers,” the commissioner said.
The police boss added that while police teams were patrolling along Makurdi-Lafia road on Sunday, they received information that some gunmen had attacked a vehicle carrying passengers to Enugu at Daudu in Guma Local Government Area.
Okoro said, “The police quickly arrived at the scene and forced the suspects to abandon their victims and flee. The gunmen left behind a bag containing military camouflage uniforms and wooden guns. The victims were released to continue their journey, and the police are currently investigating to apprehend the suspects who are still at large.”
