SONY Music is partnering with the Women at Risk International Foundation to empower senior secondary school girls between the ages of 13-16 years with knowledge and skills on how to combat sexual and gender-based violence.
A statement by the organisation said through the WARIF Educational School Programme, it would be implemented in five senior secondary schools across Lagos State, and three senior secondary schools in Ogun State, with plans to expand to other parts of Nigeria in subsequent cycles.
It read, “A total of 600 students will be trained through this initiative, with WARIF providing educational materials, teacher training, and a sound knowledge base on the appropriate response and prevention of sexual and gender-based violence to the participating students.
The WARIF Educational School Programme will also be incorporating the first-ever “peer-to-peer” outreach where students will have an opportunity to engage with peers and their community, under supervision, what they have learned.
“The partnership with SONY Music and WARIF is a significant step towards combating sexual violence and promoting gender equality in secondary schools in Nigeria. WARIF believes that by providing young girls with access to quality education and empowering them with knowledge and skills, they can become change agents in their communities and beyond.”
