The incident reportedly happened on Thursday night in the Gobirawa area of Birnin-Gwari, which is near the NTA Birnin-Gwari. The area is less than 500 metres from an Air Force field base.
The chairman of the Birnin-Gwari Local Government Council, Abdullahi Ibrahim Muhammad Amir, issued a warning to residents of the area to limit their movements within the entire Birnin-Gwari Emirate.
The warning was issued after a meeting with the Emirate Council and security agencies in the area. The chairman stated that all forms of movement, whether on foot, bike, or vehicle, were prohibited in the emirate starting at 8:30 p.m.
Danmasanin Birnin-Gwari and former Managing Director of the Kaduna State Media Corporation, Alhaji Zubair Abdurra’uf, who spoke to journalists on Friday evening, said that “when I said early this month that terrorists were closing in, on Birnin-Gwari, many people did not believe me.”
Abdurra’uf expressed his dismay that the terrorists had the audacity to enter the main town of Birnin-Gwari and carry out their evil acts.
He criticised the government for not addressing the issue of security in Birnin-Gwari and suggested that a security summit be held in the area.
He also noted that the terrorists had taken over most of the farmlands in the central part of Birnin-Gwari, making it impossible for people to farm.
Despite this, he expressed hope that the government would take action to enable the people of Birnin-Gwari to conduct their activities peacefully.
He said that the Local Government Council had imposed a curfew on Birnin-Gwari as a drastic measure.
