Saturday, May 20, 2023, can be said to be an unusual one in the conference hall of the Naval Dockyard in Victoria Island, Lagos, as officers of the Nigerian Navy paraded an unusual African native outlook, during a gala night, which was part of the events lined up for the Presidential Fleet Review 2023.
Indeed, the military personnel, mostly from the navy, showed that they are not only skilled at maritime security, but can also let their hair down and have a good time.
The Presidential Fleet Review 2023, which was the sixth of its kind, was put together by the Nigerian Navy in honour of the outgoing President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), and to mark the end of the current political dispensation.
The chairman on the occasion was the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo, who made a colourful entrance, heralded by the naval band, as they rendered the naval and national anthems.
Recitals by the band were another interesting highlights of the event, as the officers who made up the band performed with a precision that showed discipline and practice.
There were also performances by different groups, such as the Ekemini Cultural Troupe from Akwa Ibom State, which comprised of group of children, who performed with xylophones and percussion instruments, giving the guests to a beautiful show.a
