A Non-Governmental Organisation, HACEY with support from Access Cooperation has distributed delivery kits to over 500 pregnant mothers in Delta State.
It also warned them to avoid patronising herbal home.
While distributing the kits during antenatal at various hospitals on Tuesday in Asaba, the facilitator, Mrs Vera Ocholor, urged them to always register for antenatal on time to avoid complication.
She said, “This organisation is aimed at ensuring reduction in maternal/mortality rate in the country.
“Today is the turn of Okwe General hospital, we have visited Okwe Health Centre, Umuagwu Health Centre, St. Joseph Hospital and also going to FMC and El-Comfort private hospitals to find out their antenatal day to get their kits.
“We will cover over seven hospitals in Asaba, educating our pregnant mothers and distributing delivery kits to assist them as our little way of giving back to society.
“We have advised them to always register for antenatal on time and avoid patronising herbal homes with a view to reducing maternal/child death”
She noted that most of the instruments used in herbal homes were not sterilised and with a dirty environment capable of causing damage to both the mother and the child.
The facilitator said the project was to improve healthy mothers, and healthy babies in society.
In her remark, the Chief Nurse officer of the Okwe General hospital, Mrs Igho said that some pregnant mothers only came when they have complications, making the job difficult for them.
She urged women to attend antenatal regularly to make it easy for doctors and nurses to take care of them when complications arise.
