The royal father in a statement by his press secretary, Alli Ibrahim, obtained in Osogbo on Friday, explained that subsidy removal was a move to stop enriching a few individuals at the expense of the Nigerian masses.
According to him, the long-term effect of the subsidy removal will be to the advantage of many Nigerians, noting that the citizens should endure the current hardship.
The statement further read in parts, “The subsidy system is an organised crime to enrich a few rich Nigerians. It’s inimical to the growth and survival of our dear country. No government can survive in Nigeria by paying subsidy on petrol consumption.
“Subsidy removal is a blessing in disguise. Tinubu is a leader with unquantifiable administrative prowess. Nigerians should exercise patience with him.
“All his major contenders in the election have earlier pledged subsidy removal during their respective party campaign. Let’s be honest and patriotic by supporting this government to succeed.”
The monarch also urged Tinubu to fast-track the implementation of a national palliative that would lessen the effect of subsidy removal on Nigerians.
