Nine-time African champions, Super Falcons, will face either Ethiopia or Chad in the second round of the qualifying series for the Paris 2024 Women’s Olympics football tournament, The PUNCH reports.
The Paris 2024 Olympics will hold from July 26 to August 11 in Paris.
The Falcons, who missed the last three editions of the Olympics in 2012, 2016 and 2020 after losing out to Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea and Ivory Coast on those occasions, are seeded for the second round of the qualifying series, according to a statement from the Confederation of African Football.
Other seeded teams are South Africa, Morocco, Zambia, Cameroon, Tunisia and Botswana.
The games will be played between October 23 and 31 with Nigeria away in the first leg.
A total of 18 teams will feature from the first round with the remaining seven teams seeded joining the qualifiers in the second round as the highest-ranked teams from the previous Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The tournament format will see the nine winners from the first round join the seven highest-ranked teams in a captivating second-round clash involving 16 teams.
From there, eight winners will progress to the third round, followed by the fourth round, where only four teams will be left.
The winners of the fourth round will secure their qualification for the final tournament in Paris.
Meanwhile, the dates for the qualifying rounds have been confirmed by CAF with the first-round matches scheduled for July 10 to 23.
The second round will take place between October 23 to 31 and it will be followed by the third round qualifiers billed to hold from February 19-28.
The final round will hold between April 1 and 9, 2024.
