The event, which held in Ikeja, Lagos, started with a prayer session anchored by one of the members, Funsho Ibitoye; followed by a welcome address by the president of the association, Olatunji Aina.
The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Lagos State, Moyosore Onigbanjo, who was the keynote speaker at the event, spoke on the topic, ‘The Rule of Law and Public Health’.
While recalling the impact the COVID-19 pandemic had on the world, particularly Nigeria, he urged Adetifa to make the NCDC more in tune with current trends.
He said, “I recommend that you get your legal team to take a look at the Quarantine Act of 1924, which has been amended twice, to ensure that if and when the next pandemic comes, Nigeria’s laws will be up to date, and can enable you carry out your duties effectively. I know that the outgoing Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, initiated steps to amend the law but it did not succeed.”
Onigbanjo also opined that Adetifa and Nigerians should start preparing for the next pandemic, and not wait till it happens before actions are taken.
Adetifa’s citation was read by Segun Osikolu, even as he was presented with a special recognition plaque by the oldest member of the association, Akintola Ajeigbe.
A plaque of appreciation was also presented to Onigbanjo by the immediate past president of the association, Ayorinde Ore.
Thanking the association for the honour, Adetifa said, “When Aiyede 11 reached out to me, it was a bit overwhelming, and I appreciate this honour. Everyone knows my dad; our town is very important to him and me. As a matter of fact, it was only recently that he started to give up some of his roles. We grew up attending Aiyede Grammer School, and Aiyede-Ekiti Progressive Union meetings. I grew up following the examples of my parents. I am grateful to God for the kind things that have been said about me. ” Guests at the event include the Attah of Aiyede, Oba Abdul-Mumini Orisagbemi; the Chairman of Aiyede LCDA, Kayode Akinrele; Babatunde Onipinla, Kola Abejide, Jide Adeleye, Akintola Daramola, Kola Okusi, Tosin Odunfa, Sanjo Ayeni, Kola Arowojobe and Tope Longe.
