A consultant in the United Kingdom’s public sector and a user experience analyst, Bukola Jolugbo, is one woman who has never hidden her passion for grooming young men to be the best versions of themselves.
It was that burning passion that led her to establish Joshua’s Army, an initiative devoted to building high-quality relationships between fathers and their sons.
Speaking on why she decided to focus on the male child, she told Society Plus, “I recognised the challenges and struggles young boys and men face in today’s society. After observing breakdowns within communities and a continued lack of real guidance for boys, I felt the urge to do something.
“As a young mum raising two boys in Nigeria at the time, the message and expectations around raising boys was not right. Fast forward to a few years later, I moved to the United Kingdom, and the situation was pretty much the same.
“One of the things that quickly became apparent to me was the lack of good or inspiring male role models in society. A lot of families also shared their struggles with boys seeking guidance from dangerous influences in their communities, mostly as a cry for help or a desire to want to belong or feel recongised. Naturally, I started looking for solutions to prevent my sons from facing those challenges. That was basically what motivated me to start Joshua’s Army.”
Jolugbo noted that since she started the initiative, it had recorded a number of success stories, such as the Joshua’s Army Academy, a finishing school for boys; annual family workshop and day out; annual parenting summit; Dad and I Dinner; and the Better Dad Club.
