Five persons were on Wednesday arraigned before a Magistrates’ Court sitting in Yaba, Lagos State for rape and conspiracy.
The defendants include the victim’s two cousins aged 11 and 13 as well as her 44-year-old teacher who were alleged to have defiled her at different times.
The victim’s mother and the mother of her two cousins were also arraigned for conspiracy.
The defendants were arraigned before the Magistrate, Patrick Nwaka, on three counts of conspiracy and rape.
The boys were said to be living together in a room apartment with the victim and her mother and they allegedly took turns to defile her.
The incident was said to have happened at 46, Ayanwale Street, off Toluwall, in the Ikotun area of the state in 2021.
The teacher, Taofeek Davies, was also alleged to have defiled the victim in his house.
The case was held inside the chamber because of the age of the two boys.
The prosecutor, Thomas Nurudeen, told the court that the two mothers hid the crime, hence the reason for their arraignment for conspiracy.
According to Nurudeen, the offences contravened and are punishable under Sections 137 and 263 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.
In his ruling, the magistrate admitted the two women to bail in the sum of N200,000 each with two responsible sureties.
He, however, remanded the teacher for 30 days while he released the two boys to their father with a warning that he must provide them anytime they are meant to come to court.
He adjourned the case till July 7, 2023.
