The Lagos State Chapter of the National Old Students Association of Olivet Baptist High School, Oyo on Saturday held its 2023 health walk.
The event tagged, ‘The future is accessible, just walk’ featured a 10km walk, on-site medical checkup, games, as well a variety of competitions.
During the walk, participants set out from the Maryland Mall area of Lagos State at 8:30am through Mobolaji Johnson Road and returned around 10:45 am.
Speaking in an interview with Saturday PUNCH, the chairperson of the planning committee, Rasheedat Adeyemi, stated that the annual event was aimed at encouraging regular exercise among members, adding that regular exercise promotes longevity in life.
Adeyemi added, “We believe the healthier we are, the better we become. We have been told that the new cancer is actually sitting and not walking. When you walk, you elongate your life and increase the probability of living longer.”
Supporting Adeyemi’s view, a participant and former chairman of the committee, Oluwafemi Jehoshua, said the event had been able to achieve its objectives since it was conceived.
The association’s chairperson in the state, Mrs Omobola Oladeji, urged all alumni not to be deterred from contributing to the development of their alma mater.
According to her, there would be an improvement in the education sector if there was willingness, collective support and cooperation among old students.
She added, “As an association of old students we collectively continue to support our alma mater. Every chapter has a role it plays in the institution.”
