The weeklong 15th coronation anniversary of the Timi of Ede land, Osun State, Oba Munirudeen Lawal, which started on Sunday, June 4, 2023, and ended on Saturday June 10, 2023, was indeed a spectacular and colourful affair.
The line-up of activities included the conferment of the title of Jagunmolu of Ede land on a former Chief of Army Staff and former Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau, on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, in Ede. According to a statement earlier released by the chairman of the anniversary’s planning committee, Tajudeen Akanji, the chieftaincy title was not to only commemorate the 15th coronation anniversary but to also reinforce the bond between Dambazau, a native of Kano State, and the people of Ede land.
The monarch also conferred chieftaincy titles on other notable figures in Ede. This was even as a special Jumat ‘royal night’ were held on Friday, June 9, 2023.
Obviously ecstatic, the women of the community sang praises of their beloved monarch, while praying for him to have a peaceful reign on the throne.
The grand finale of the event was held on Saturday, June 10, at Ede High School, and it was attended by the Governor of Osun State, Nurudeen Adeleke, who was the chief host and special guest of honour.
Felicitating the monarch, the Deputy Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Akinyode Oyewusi, “I thank Almighty Allah for sustaining the life of kabiyesi (king) since 2008. Since his ascension, and in the continued tradition of progress that Ede represents, kabiyesi’s impactful life has brought recognition and progress to Ede land.”
The Forum of Ede Youth Development Association, in a statement signed by its national president, Afolabi Abiola, also commended the monarch for the development the town had experienced since he ascended the throne. The statement read in part, “I, on behalf of the Forum of Ede Youth Development Association, wish to rejoice with our pacesetter king on the occasion of his 15th coronation anniversary. We wish him long life on the throne. Congratulations, kabiyesi.”
