A group, Ogun Integrity Vanguard, has tackled the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the March 18 governorship election in the state, Oladipupo Adebutu, over a fresh petition against Governor Dapo Abiodun on vote-buying allegation.
The group, which described Adebutu’s petition as frivolous and diversionary, asked him to rather present himself for trial on the charges filed against him by the Federal Government.
Adebutu had recently written a fresh petition to the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, accusing Abiodun and the All Progressives Congress of vote-buying, electoral violence and intimidation of voters.
Adebutu, through his lawyer, Ehi Uwaifoh, also accused Abiodun of using N5bn to induce voters with pre-loaded top-up gift cards loaded with N10,000 and N5,000 each
But reacting to the fresh petition, Ogun Integrity Vanguard, in a statement by its secretary, Duro Thomas, said, “It is disturbing that after the Federal Government had investigated their vote-buying plot and charged them to court, Adebutu and some accused members of the PDP in Ogun State are now writing petitions to the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Usman Alkali Baba, asking him to investigate Governor Dapo Abiodun and the APC for vote-buying too.”
While referencing money laundering and vote-buying charges filed against Adebutu and some PDP members by the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, the group said, “It is laughable that these people are desperately trying to push a counter-narrative too late in the day.”
