The group made this call in a statement released by its national president, Ambassador Akinyele Olasumbo, on Monday.
“It is our sincere opinion, having carefully scrutinised the potentials, to submit that Senator Godswill Apkabio will naturally be the best choice for Senate President.
“Considering, among many other solid reasonings, that in the interest of national unity, having a president and vice president who are Muslims, it will only be fair to give the number three office to a Christian,” it said.
It added that the emergence of Akpabio, a South Southerner, will ensure a balance of power and inclusiveness in the Assembly.
Enumerating some of the successes of the former Akwa Ibom State governor, the group noted that he constructed and renovated several schools across the state and provided a conducive environment for learning.
“Furthermore, the governor’s administration also made significant progress in the health sector. The state government constructed and equipped several health facilities, which improved access to healthcare services in the state. The governor also introduced several health programmes aimed at improving the health and well-being of the people.
It said Akpabio’s giant stride in governance has not gone unnoticed, as he has received numerous awards and accolades both nationally and internationally for his achievements.
“His administration has been praised for its transparency, accountability, and good governance.
“Godswill Akpabio has also made significant achievements as a senator representing Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District in the Nigerian National Assembly,” the group added.
Olasumbo said Akpabio’s advocacy for accountability, infrastructure development, youth and women’s empowerment, and investment in his constituency has impacted positively on the lives of his constituents and Nigerians in general.
