Experts have advocated for the harmonisation of Human Resource strategies to ensure the continued availability and development of talented individuals.
Speaking to The PUNCH in separate chats, human resources experts stated that reskilling plays a vital role in ensuring employees are equipped to adapt to new roles and prepare for significant changes within an organisation.
According to them, capacity building empowers employees to thrive and enhance their agility in their current positions, enabling them to navigate evolving demands effectively.
In an exclusive interview with The PUNCH, the President of Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association, Wale Oyerinde, stressed the significance of reskilling in improving workforce efficiency, particularly in light of emerging trends.
He said, “In an ever-evolving world, the workforce must continuously adapt and learn new approaches to remain relevant and productive. The acquisition of new skills by employees is vital for organisations to stay competitive, sustainable, and up to date with the dynamic demands of the environment.”
According to him, in today’s work era, reskilling plays a pivotal role in empowering employees to acquire relevant skills that are aligned with the changing dynamics of the modern workplace.
Oyerinde advised, “To sustain their market position, organisations must thoroughly evaluate their investments in employee reskilling, recognising its significance and impact on their competitiveness.
“Amid the crucial goals of maintaining competitiveness and profitability, organisations greatly benefit from highly trained and skilled employees, who can effectively contribute to organisational growth. As workplace trends continuously evolve, the ongoing necessity to reskill employees remains constant and essential.”
Similarly, a Human Resource Consultant, Bolaji Shote, said the significance of reskilling could not be overstated, as the world was constantly evolving, leaving no room for static approaches.
She noted that the COVID-19 pandemic had heightened the reliance on technology, triggering rapid changes in the world and rendering certain skills obsolete.
She said, “HR managers must prioritise reskilling initiatives to enable employees to meet the evolving demands of the business, navigate the dynamic economic landscape, and successfully navigate the challenges presented by globalisation.
