Sierra Leone striker Ismael Dumbuya is hopeful the Leone Stars will beat the Super Eagles when both sides clash in a 2023 AFCON qualifier on Sunday in Monrovia, Liberia, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
John Keister’s side will face the three-time African champions at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Stadium, Monrovia in their match-day five Group A clash.
The Leone Stars have recorded just one win in the qualifiers; a 2-0 result over Sao Tome and Principe and are expected to be run over by the Super Eagles, who have recorded the biggest win of the competition — a 10-0 scoreline over Sao Tome.
Dumbuya is however confident they can shock their highly-rated opponents.
“I hope to make the final squad for the game against Nigeria,” the LISCR FC forward said in a short video posted on the official Twitter handle of the Sierra Leone Football Federation.
“We want to beat Nigeria and qualify for the next AFCON.”
Sierra Leone currently occupy third position in Group A table with five points from four matches, four adrift of the Super Eagles.
They will need to win the game to keep their hopes of making it to Ivory Coast 2023 alive.
