In a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday, Chairman of the APC CDC, Tunde Doherty, described both leaders as the right men for the job with proven track records.
Doherty’s tribute is coming two days after the election of principal officers into the lower and upper chambers.
Akpabio, who was declared the winner by Clerk of the National Assembly, Sani Tambuwal, polled 63 votes to defeat former Governor of Zamfara State, Abdulazeez Yari, who garnered 46 votes.
Abass, on the other hand, amassed 352 votes to beat Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Idris Wase and former chairman House Committee on Intelligence and Internal Security, Sani Jaji who could only manage three votes respectively to become Speaker.
But Doherty, who is also chairman of APC-UK, reiterated that the results of Tuesday’s polls speak for themselves.
He said, “Senator Godswill Akpabio and Speaker Tajudeen Abbas have demonstrated an unwavering dedication to public service throughout their careers, earning them this prestigious opportunity to steer the future of our great nation. This momentous achievement highlights their exceptional leadership qualities and the trust bestowed upon them by their fellow senators and the Nigerian people.
“The Committee of Diaspora Chairmen and CDC are honoured to witness their ascent to these pivotal positions within Nigeria’s political landscape. With their wealth of experience and profound commitment to national progress, we have full confidence in their ability to lead with integrity, transparency, and a strong focus on the welfare of Nigeria and its citizens.
The Committee of Diaspora Chairmen and Chairman Honorable Tunde Doherty extend their warmest wishes for a fruitful and successful term in office. We trust that Senator Godswill Akpabio and Speaker Tajudeen Abbas will demonstrate wisdom in their decision-making, resilience in overcoming challenges, and unwavering compassion in serving the Nigerian people.
“We stand ready to collaborate with Senator Godswill Akpabio, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, and their esteemed colleagues in any capacity required. Together, we aim to uplift our nation and harness the immense potential of our Diaspora community.”
