The Governor stated this on Thursday in his response to the sealing of all 17 Local Government Secretariats in the state by the state Commissioner of police on the orders of the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba.
The response was contained in a statement issued by the Governor’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere.
The statement read in part: “The Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has appealed to the peace-loving citizens of Plateau State to remain calm over the lawful changes in the Local Government system in the state.
“Governor Mutfwang in a press statement signed by the Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, appealed to citizens to remain calm and resist any form of provocation, as the government is taking lawful steps to return the Local Government system to a sound footing for massive development at the grassroots.
“He urged citizens in the state not to indulge in any unlawful activity that will undermine peace and security in the state.
“The Governor reassures Plateau State citizens that the security of lives and property remains the topmost priority of his administration as it is the foundation that gives birth to all forms of growth and development.
“He noted that the task of building a united and secure Plateau is a collective one and the government is making frantic efforts to address the current happenings at the local government level”
The PUNCH reports that the state governor, Caleb Mutfwang, suspended last week all the chairmen in the local government areas of the state alongside the councillors to pave the way for investigations following allegations of financial impropriety levelled against them by the state legislature.
They were later replaced by the governor with interim management committees to run the affairs in the council areas but the former council officials who were all members of the All Progressives Congress had rejected their suspension and vowed to remain in their offices.
