The victim, identified as Miss Nzube Mbachu, was said to have been induced by the native doctor to make a title document of the land said to belong to her late father in his favour.
Okaa, who hails from the Nnobi community had told Mbachu that the deaths which had occurred in her lineage were because of the said land occupied by her and told her to relocate while promising to build a house for her and her children.
It was gathered that it was on this premise that Okaa made Mbachu allegedly sign documents transferring the ownership of the said land to him.
While arraigning the culprit, the police prosecutor, Mr. Ifeanyi Eze, brought the five-count charge between the Commissioner of Police and Okaa before the Nnobi Chief Magistrate Court presided over by Chief Magistrate Ken Nwoye.
The prosecutor stated that Okaa and one other now at large had sometime between July 2020 and October 2021 at Nnobi did attempt to commit a felony by inducing one Miss Nzube Mbachu, an orphan to make a title document of her land in his favour.
Eze also alleged that Okaa had promised to build a house for Mbachu to relocate her and her children in addition to making other payments for the land.
The prosecutor further stated that the accused forcibly entered the said land thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 496 (a) of the Criminal Code Law Cap 36, Volume ii, Revised Laws of Anambra State of Nigeria 1991 as amended.
After hearing the five-count charge brought against him, Okaa pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, therefore, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N200,000 and a surety, adding that the surety must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.
Before adjourning the matter to July 14, 2023, for a definite hearing, the court warned parties especially the prosecution to ensure it commences the hearing on the next adjourned date.
“Make sure you start hearing on the next adjourned date otherwise I will strike out this matter because I do not entertain any delay in my court”, the chief magistrate warned.
