The Institute of Directors Nigeria has said its membership rose by over 800 in two years.
The President and Chairman of the governing council, Institute Of Directors Nigeria, Dr. Ije Jidenma, disclosed this during IoD’s ‘2023 biennial lecture in Lagos on Thursday with the theme, ‘The cultural norms versus good governance: Balancing the tug of war’.
She said, “Our growth and development efforts have yielded good fruits as the institute, despite the challenges in the operating environment, has fared well in the last two years and we have witnessed growth in all its areas of operation, including its membership base.
“We have improved our membership services and delivery of value to members and also witnessed growth in membership of the institute with over 800 members joining the institute in the last two years.
“The governing council of the institute has also put in place strategies and policies that will ensure the sustainability of the institute.”
As a tradition, she noted, IoD Nigeria hosts a biennial lecture in honour of its outgoing president and chairman of the governing council at the end of their two-year tenure.
The biennial lecture, she said was organised in her honour as she prepared to hand over the baton of leadership of the institute in the next one week to the next president and chairman of governing council of the institute.
She noted that the theme of the lecture brought to the fore the critical meeting point of societal norms and values and the principles of good governance.
Jidenma recalled that the five pillars she mentioned in her acceptance speech were inclusiveness, growth and development, chartership of the institute, IoD house project and digital transformation.
The institute, she said, became chartered on 26 May 2023 as its Bill was signed into law by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
She said, “The IoD House project has also received a lot of attention in the past two years.
“We have worked well to establish a good governance structure to ensure a smooth construction of the IoD House, which would properly align our governing council’s supervisory role and the board of Temple Court Limited’s operational role in the construction of our edifice.”
The institute’s growth and development efforts, she said, had yielded good fruits because despite the challenges in the operating environment, it had fared well in the last two years, and witnessed growth in all its areas of operation.
