Angola beat Central African Republic 2-1 in Saturday afternoon’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualification Group E match at Stade de la Réunification in Cameroon.
The victory boosted Palancas Negras’ ambitions of qualifying for the Afcon finals as they are now placed second in the Group E standings and they will next face Madagascar away in September this year.
The African Wild Beasts, on the other hand, slipped down to the third spot in the Group E standings and they are set to wrap up their qualifying campaign with a match against Ghana.
Palancas Negras got off to the perfect start as they broke the deadlock just 12 minutes into the encounter with Kialonda Gaspar scoring to make it 1-0 to Angola, with Fredy providing the assist.
The African Wild Beasts then fought back as they looked to level matters, but the visitors’ defence which was marshalled by Jonathan Buatu was able to contain CAR and Angola were leading 1-0 at halftime.
However, Angola were caught napping at the back after the restart and they were punished by Geoffrey Kondogbia as the Atletico Madrid star netted to make it 1-1 just a minute into the second-half.
It was end-to-end stuff in the latter stages of the match and Milson snatched a late winning goal when the Ankaragücü forward scored in the 86th minute to seal Angola’s 2-1 victory over CAR.
