A group under the aegis of Coalition of Tangale-Waja Youths and Students Associations has urged President Bola Tinubu to nominate the minister from the state from Gombe-South.
The chairman of the coalition, Shuaibu Bilayabu, said since 1999 nobody from the senatorial district had been made a minister.
He said the senatorial district had rich cultural heritage, vibrant communities and untapped potential, stressing that it deserved representation at the highest level of government.
He said, “Despite the countless contributions we have made to the development and progress of our great nation, we have been overlooked and neglected in the allocation of ministerial positions. It is an undeniable fact that Gombe State, since the restoration of democracy in 1999, has witnessed the emergence of more than eight ministers as well as heads of ministries, departments and agencies.
However, a concerning aspect of this trend is that none of these influential positions have been occupied by individuals hailing from Gombe-South.”
The group appealed to Tinubu to hasten the confirmation of Dr Umar Hashidu, from Gombe North, who was recently appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari as the Managing Director of the North-East Development Commission.
Also speaking, the secretary of the group, Bashir Isah, said the present administration had shown signs of being a people’s government, as he pleaded that someone from the district be considered.
