Singer, Kent Edunjobi, has said he didn’t envisage the success of his song ‘Ebenezeri’ despite the viral success of the tune. He added that the song, which he did alongside his church choir, The Apex, wasn’t initially meant for members of the public.
In an interview with Sunday Scoop, he said, “The song wasn’t even meant to be thrown to the public. It was just a song for our (church) anniversary that I wrote, just like every other song I have written for my church. I uploaded the song on YouTube just for us to have some views. It was surprising that everyone started ‘vibing’ to it and it is trending. It is not something I envisaged but I will take it with my full chest.”
Speaking on the lessons he learnt following the release of the song, he said, “’Ebenezeri’ has taught me a lot lessons. It has made me to fear God the more. When I am writing a song, I like to be inspired and be under the influence of the Holy Spirit. I like to pray a lot before writing any song. That was how ‘Ebenezeri’ came.”
Edunjobi, who leads the Apex Choir of the Celestial Church of Christ in Ketu, Lagos, clinched the 2023 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards for Best Soundtrack category for ‘Anikulapo’.
Speaking on how he felt winning the award, he said, ”Winning the AMVCA is a big deal. Two years ago, I won Africa Movie Academy Awards for Best Soundtrack category for ‘Citation’. However, AMVCA is something I have always wanted to win. Its coming to fulfillment is so wonderful.
“It has impacted a lot in my career and boosted my profile. People who naturally won’t notice me have started noticing me. I am grateful to God and to Kunle Afolayan for the endless opportunities he has always given me and this is one of them.”
