Actress and content creator, Monica Friday, has said her upbringing in Ajegunle, Lagos, made her develop a strong sense of self-confidence and self-belief which helps her to handle rejection.
She told Sunday Scoop, “Handling rejection became simple because of where I come from. I grew up in Ajegunle, where confidence and believing in one’s self isn’t difficult. I have knowledge about who I am in Christ. I am complete without anyone’s acceptance or ideology. In addition, my unique talent has kept me on top, and of course, God’s undeniable backup.”
Also, she revealed that one of the most challenging aspects of fame is maintaining financial stability. She said, “The craziest part (of being famous) is (maintaining) financial stability. Fame can make one’s helper see one like one doesn’t need help. There were days I didn’t have money. I have been able to learn the act of saving wisely, investing in real estate and doing charity works wisely. I always cut my coat according to my size”.
Speaking about the misconception people have about entertainers, she said, “The misconception people have about the entertainment industry is that there are no legit earnings. There are platforms paying people in dollars and not everyone will come out to say it. In Nigeria, most people don’t mention how they make money, or even teach people how they do it.”
Friday, who is known for her unwavering love for God, also shared how she integrates her love for God into her career. She said, “As an actress, I am able to balance my love for God and my career because it is first a lifestyle. So, I don’t look for how to balance it. Besides, I realised my calling early and I know it is God who propelled my career. However, this has caused so much undeniable separation. Sometimes I wake up to realise that some people have blocked me on Instagram. These are people whose works I respect.”
