Some members of the Orogun community have said that the siting of the tertiary institution in their locality has transformed the sleepy agrarian community, turning it into a tourist attraction of sorts.
The village head, Chief Benjamin U. F. Ojiri, the Omamede of Orogun Kingdom and Okarorho of Orhomuru community, showered encomiums on the government and the immediate past Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, for facilitating the Federal Polytechnic to Orogun Kingdom.
Chief Ojiri said the Federal Polytechnic has ushered in the community’s desired development.
“We are very grateful to our son, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, the immediate past Deputy President of the Senate because due to his ingenuity, he is able to lobby and get this Federal Polytechnic to our environment,” the village head told journalists who were on a working visit to the tertiary institution.
“The community as a whole and the Orogun kingdom are all very grateful to him because this school has brought development to our area.
“The presence of the institution is already having a positive impact on our area. The community is already feeling the impact, even though it has not actually gained ground. The local people working there are already earning salaries. We have a lot of visitors in the community, that is making their businesses thrive.
“With the school being here, soon we expect banks and other government institutions to establish their offices in the community.
“No doubt, the people of Orogun will forever be grateful to the immediate past Deputy President of the Senate for turning a hitherto obscure village into a megacity with the siting of the Federal Polytechnic to the community and the state.”
Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, representing Delta Central Senatorial District in the 8th Senate, had in 2017 moved a motion for the establishment of the Federal Polytechnic, Orogun. His efforts culminated in the bill’s passage and eventual assent by the immediate past President, Muhammadu Buhari, in February, year, as conveyed in a letter dated February 23, 2021, to the then Deputy President of the Senate referenced DHE/POLY/39/C.1/I/84 and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Arc.
