Nigerian striker Odion Ighalo has revealed his two worst moments playing for the Super Eagles.
The former Manchester United player made this assertion during an interview with Elegbete TV.
Ighalo, who made his debut for Nigeria in their 1-0 defeat to Uganda in a friendly game, first considered quitting the national team in the aftermath of the Eagles’ group stage exit from the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
The former Watford striker was hugely criticised by majority of the fans who were not happy he squandered two goal-scoring chances in the Eagles’ 2-1 defeat to Argentina which cost the side a place in the second round.
He would go on to quit the national team in 2019 after emerging as the top scorer at the Africa Cup of Nations held in Egypt, citing constant abuse and undue criticism as the reasons for his brief retirement.
The 34-year-old returned back to the Eagles camp for the 2022 Qatar World Cup qualifiers which the Eagles failed to qualify for following a 1-1 draw with Ghana at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.
Since the game against the Black Star, the Al-Hilal forward is yet to feature for the three-time African champions.
Ighalo however recounted his moment player for Nigeria.
“The two worst experiences I had with the Super Eagles was the game against Argentina at the 2018 World Cup when I missed a chance and the whole of Nigeria wanted to bury me alive,” Ighalo told Elegbete TV.
“Also the last World Cup which we did not qualify for was another bad time for me. I believe we had the tools and everything in our possession to qualify for that World Cup.
“We were playing at home, which was an advantage. The stadium was crowded that day and that was an advantage for us.
“But due to some circumstances or selfish reasons for some people, we did not get to qualify. However, we have to look forward.”
