Six persons, on Sunday, lost their lives in a crash that injured no fewer than 15 persons at Sekona, along the Ogbomoso-Odo-Oba Road, in the Ogo Oluwa Local Government Area of Oyo State.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the crash involved a commercial bus and a trailer.
According to eyewitnesses, the victims were all male and their corpses had been deposited at the Ladoke Akintola Teaching Hospital mortuary.
The injured victims were said to have been taken to the Bowen University Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, for medical attention.
Our correspondent gathered that the commercial bus with 21 passengers on board and the driver of the truck driver were heading to a state in the northern part of Nigeria when the crash happened.
An eyewitness, Seun Fakorede, said the driver of the bus attempted to overtake the truck but lost control and rammed into the truck.
He said, “The accident occurred on Sunday evening. The driver of the bus was trying to overtake the truck at that sharp corner and suddenly lost control and hit the truck.
“All of a sudden, the bus veered off the road and somersaulted almost five times. Five people died immediately. Others were quickly rushed to the hospital by the road safety officials.”
Similarly, an Okada rider lost his life on Monday morning after he ran into a stationary vehicle at the Gbede end of the Ogbomoso-Ilorin Road in the Surulere Local Government Area of the state.
Confirming the crashes, the Ogbomoso Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Isaac Adebayo, said the crash on Sunday happened around 5pm.
He added, “Five died immediately. My people went there this morning. I just confirmed from him that another person died at the hospital, making it six altogether.
“Also this morning, my people have to go for another rescue on the Ilorin Road. An Okada rider ran into a truck again at Gbede, very close to Ote. He also died. That is the information I’ve gotten so far.”
