World Milk Day, established by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), is an international celebration that emphasizes the commitment of the dairy industry to reducing its environmental footprint while providing nutritious food and sustainable livelihoods.
Chioma Otisi Igwe, Marketing Manager of Three Crowns Milk, expressed her satisfaction with the initiative, stating that it aligned perfectly with FrieslandCampina WAMCO’s vision of building a sustainable dairy value chain and contributing to the well-being of communities.
Corroborating, Mr. Kunle Abiola, Sustainability Manager, FrieslandCampina WAMCO said that the company, inline with the backward integration strategy of the Federal Government, collects up to 40,000 litres of fresh milk daily from dairy smallholder farmers across different milk collection centres in Nigeria.
According to him, the locally sourced milk from these farmers is collected through its29 Milk Collection Centres (MCC) in the different farmer communities, then transported to the world-class FrieslandCampina WAMCO plant in Lagos where it is processed into nutritious dairy products.
On World Milk Day 2023, the dairy brand demonstrated its dedication to promoting nutrition and well-being by serving healthy breakfast meals made with Three Crowns milk and conducting health checks for 5,000 consumers in Oshogbo, Osun state and in the ancient city of Kano.
Sharing her thoughts on the initiative, Mrs Idiat Fapojude, a consumer, said: “Attending the Three Crowns Milk event was a fantastic experience. I learnt quite a lot about the importance of conscious food choices. It’s great to see a brand like Three Crowns Milk taking the lead in promoting a healthier and more sustainable future for all of us.”
