The PUNCH reported on Monday that the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Ahmed Audi, advised oil thieves in all producing areas to exit the country.
He warned that those who stay in the country intending to continue with the nefarious have his men to contend with, adding that the NSCDC under him would not condone compromise from any person in the ongoing war against oil thieves.
In a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, the group, through its national president, Imeabe Oscar, lauded the action of the NSCDC boss to stop oil thieves from vandalising the nation’s treasury.
“The action of the NSCDC on the call for the relocation of oil thieves would not only stop them from vandalising the nation’s treasury but also prevent environmental pollution.
“The NSCDC boss has shown a level of seriousness to tame oil thieves across the country and this is laudable,” Oscar said.
Oscar further highlighted the exemplary leadership of Audi since assuming office and acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s support in empowering the Corps to effectively execute its duties.
“Under the leadership of Audi as the CG of NSCDC, 34 Rifles were recovered from criminals in Imo State in December 2021 and has ensured due respect for Federal Character in the appointment and posting of state commandant.
“Audi has worked assiduously in the fight against oil theft and illegal oil bunkering. The menace has been reduced, especially in South-South and South-East. He has eliminated the soot that was disturbing Rivers State and other states of the Niger Delta as a result of the success against illegal bunkering in the area,” Oscar said.
Other notable achievements mentioned included the establishment of training schools for career progression and the supply of credible intelligence in the fight against insurgency and banditry. The construction of state command headquarters in Gombe, Kebbi, and other states was also recognised.
Oscar, however, expressed gratitude for CG Audi’s visionary leadership, which has significantly repositioned the NSCDC for improved security service delivery.
He further called on President Tinubu to approve the necessary entitlements required for the smooth running of the Corps.
