A child trafficker and the operator of the said brothel in Oba, popularly called “Madam Venza,” had gone into hiding with the said girls after a video of her brothel operations went viral on social media.
The suspect was later arrested on Tuesday by the Anambra State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare in collaboration with the state police command.
She and her husband were further interrogated for attempting to bribe the commissioner with the sum of N2 million to enable them to continue running the facility where underage girls are being forced into sex slavery.
Obinabo, while speaking to journalists in Awka on Wednesday, said before the arrest of the suspects, she had already intimated the state police and the governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, who gave her the directive to rescue the girls, while adopting the strategy used in capturing the said suspect.
She, therefore, noted that with the suspect in custody, finding the girls will be easier, as she’s not giving up on finding them.
“We are ready to go as far as sealing off the brothel in order to rescue the kids, give them a better life and reunite them with their families.
“At the same time, we appreciate the efforts of the Anambra State Police Command in working closely with the ministry in apprehending the suspects as and when needed,” she added.
